Title:   Friday Nights in Georgia: Time to Showcase Students Using Technology
Presenters: Athens Academy

ETTC: University of Georgia
Date: Wednesday
Contact: Mike Callinan
Football games on fall Friday nights in Georgia are special times to showcase your students' extraordinary talents. Whether it's players demonstrating athleticism, cheerleaders showing spirit, or musicians sharing their music, now your technology-savvy students can showcase these talents to the world via a live streaming webcast. On September 9, 2001, Athens Academy was one of the first schools in the country to webcast live home football games. Each year, new students volunteer to learn and enhance these webcasts to include instant replay and pre-game and halftime shows of school activities that were viewed last season by grandparents in London, alumni in China, relatives serving on aircraft carriers at sea, and thousands of football fans across the state. This session will show you how to do it!

After creating their game and testing it, the students created webpages to convince other students to play their game. Through the creation of these games on Scratch, the students will demonstrate how to translate elements of story, character, setting, and action into mathematical expressions and programming logic. Nebo students will also teach participants how to create simple simulations and games using the Scratch platform.
