a
Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL) Session, a Poster Session,
or a Student Showcase Session
Please read these directions carefully before submitting an application to
present a concurrent session, a Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL) session, a Poster session, or a Student Showcase
session.
(Workshop applications must be submitted on a separate form.)
One of our conference exhibitors, Atomic Learning, will provide

This gift recognizes the important role of our presenters at GaETC 2008!
SESSION TYPES
- Concurrent
A concurrent session is a formal, one-hour presentation in lecture or
demonstration format given to a seated audience; it could include small
group activities.
- Bring Your Own Laptop (BYOL)
A BYOL is a one-hour session in which attendees can have hands-on experience
with a Web-based application or commonly available software, e.g. explore
websites, create wikis, set up audience response surveys.
- Poster
A poster session is an informal, two-hour exhibit-style presentation
occurring in an open, public environment. Topics may include the
presentation of a technology-connected lesson or echnology-based curricular
project, and/or the demonstration of an electronic resource/website. Poster
sessions will include access to power, a high-speed Ethernet connection, and
a large-screen color monitor to connect to the presenter’s laptop.
Presenters will have access to a counter-height presentation table and a
free-standing cork bulletin board. Presenters are asked to provide a sign
with their names and presentation titles—any size and format is acceptable.
- Student Showcase
A student showcase is an informal, all-day demonstration in an open-house,
science-fair format featuring students actively engaged in classroom
projects and activities. It is an opportunity to demonstrate innovative or
exemplary uses of technology in the classroom. A showcase is not intended to
include formal lecture-style presentations. Any program or activity that
allows students to actively demonstrate how they use technology in their own
classroom environment is appropriate.
DEADLINES AND CRITERIA
This online application must be used to submit proposals for one-hour concurrent
sessions. Applications must be received by September 7, 2008. Incomplete or late
applications will not be considered. Notification of application status will be
mailed to Presenter 1 (main presenter) by September 26, 2008. The conference
program committee carefully reviews all submissions. Selection criteria are
designed to maintain high quality presentations featuring a broad range of
technological applications that will be of interest to conference attendees,
primarily Georgia K-12 teachers, administrators, and technology leaders. Concurrent sessions can be
presented in a variety of styles, including demonstration, discussion, and
lecture.
PRESENTERS
A concurrent session may be presented by any number of people; however, only the
first two presenters will be identified on the GaETC website and the printed conference program. Additional
presenters can be identified in the session narrative, but they will not be
listed on the website or in the printed program. GaETC will provide
one complimentary conference registration per session. The person
listed on the Application to Present as "Presenter 1" (main presenter) will
automatically be registered and receive the complimentary registration. All
other presenters must register and
pay to attend the conference.
VENDOR PRESENTATIONS
Approximately 12 percent of GaETC workshops and concurrent sessions are
presented by vendors representing technology-related products and services from
either a “technical” or “instructional” perspective. These sessions are not
“Infomercials," but are intended to offer valuable information to attendees. All
vendor presentations are labeled as such in the program. All vendor presenters
must be exhibitors at GaETC.
WORKSHOP HANDOUTS
Presenters are strongly encouraged to provide handouts during their
presentations. Handouts are the responsibility of the presenter. The Georgia
International Convention Center has a business services center with copy and fax
machines available. A link to electronic handouts can be posted on the GaETC
website. Please contact Mary Starke at
mstarke@gaetc.org.
EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE
GaETC will provide the following items in each room: digital projector,
projection screen, sound capabilities, table, and
Internet connectivity for the presenter. All other
equipment, including the presenter's computer and software, peripherals, cords,
carts, and multiple outlets, will be the presenter's responsibility.
