Using technology for technology's sake is akin to putting a milk bucket under a bull. As educators in today's fast-paced educational community, we must understand how technology is changing the way teachers teach and how students learn. We must demonstrate best practices and provide the necessary supports to ensure the successful infusion of technology as a curriculum-delivering vehicle. In this fun and entertaining session, we will take a closer look at what you need to know to "make it happen" in your schools. As students use authentic literature for reading instruction, it is important for them to have a variety of ways to dig deeper into text to create meaning. As a part of an edtech grant, movie making was used by students to demonstrate synthesis and analysis of text by creating plausible endings to book club books. Students developed storyboards, wrote scripts for the film, and edited (using I-movie) their own movies. The students compared invented endings to actual endings in book club meeting format. Movies were viewed at our "Hollywood Premier" party. Students were divided into heterogeneous groups and each group discussed and chose their book club text together. Students organized a production company and assigned the following jobs: Writer, Artist, Director/Producer, Camera Person, Production Assistant, Props, and Make-up Director.  All students took part in the editing process.
