Session#:       117    Title:  Predicting Success for Students in the Elementary and Middle Schools

Presented By:  Shari McGilvray - Pearson Digital Learning

Time: Thurs. 11:00 am - 12:00     Seats: 55      Location: Room 313       Strand:  Admin. Elem. Secon. Special

Students throughout the state of Georgia have participated in reading and math courseware that is correlated to the Georgia QCC. Their courseware achievement levels were statistically analyzed to determine whether their progress in this managed software could predict success on the CRCT in reading and math. Findings provided 80% confidence levels to indicate the strong relationship between the courseware achievement levels and the CRCT scale scores. This data is used to establish predictive targets to more precisely assess students' readiness for the CRCT. By using these targets, teachers will be able to track student performance  toward specific goals by grade level, NCLB subgroups, individual IEPs,  etc. This session will demonstrate how to effectively use the SuccessMaker Enterprise software program, along with the predictive targets, to help  prepare students and enhance learning.

Session#:       118    Title:  Success in the Co-Teaching Classroom Using ACTIVboard

Technology

Using the document camera for whole group lessons increases focused learning and makes it easier for the teacher to monitor student understanding. During this session, participants will view actual lessons integrating document camera and ACTIVboard technology. Participants will also learn how to modify lessons to greatly improve the academic achievement of students with special needs.

Presented By:  Doug Johnson - Featured Speaker

Time: Thurs. 11:00 am - 12:00     Seats: 230    Location: Ballroom B      Strand:  ALL

Too much effort is expended in education trying to “catch” plagiarism in student work. Teachers and media specialists are using various Web services and techniques using search engines to determine if or how much of student writing is lifted from online sources. While such tools are necessary and can be effective, educators should also be creating assignments, especially those that involve research, that minimize the likelihood of plagiarism in the first place. This session gives teachers the tools that help them design LPP (Low Probability of Plagiarism) projects that require original, thoughtful research.

Personal scrapbooks provide a unique view into the thoughts, lives, and activities of their creator(s). Some of the best and most valuable scrapbooks are simple, focused documents that are directed to one single topic, theme, or subject. Technology has expanded the techniques available for producing, duplicating, and distributing scrapbooks. By connected with standards, authentic materials, and higher order thinking activities, electronic scrapbooking becomes a powerful learning tool. This session provides specific examples and strategies for integrating electronic scrapbooking activities into the K12 classroom.
