W10. Tips for Writing a Winning Grant Proposal

Workshop participants will develop an understanding of what grant proposal reviewers look for in deciding which proposals get funded and which do not.  They'll walk away with practical tips they can use in creating their own proposals. All too often, a school or district will write a good grant proposal, only to learn that it was not funded.  The purpose of this workshop is to help participants learn the difference between a good proposal and a great proposal.  They will develop an understanding of the proposal review process, what reviewers look for, and how to get a competitive edge on their grant proposals.

Teachers will be able to understand how electronic books and other e-tools can increase reading comprehension and fluency in the middle grades.  This workshop will focus on rapid acceleration strategies designed to increase reading comprehension and fluency.  Teachers will learn how to construct electronic books and effectively implement them in their classroom.  Teachers will also be able to allow students to construct their very own electronic book and publish on the web.

W13. Facilitate Powerful Teaching: Helping Teachers Use PeachStar’s Video Streaming

Learn about PeachStar’s Video Streaming and how you can make this valuable resource more accessible and easier to use for your teachers. PeachStar’s Video Streaming provides a wealth of media and curricular resources for teachers to use in the classroom, and it falls on the Technology Coordinator to insure that support for the use of those resources is in place. Because of differing technological capabilities, school systems and schools may run into a variety of issues concerning the use of Video Streaming. PeachStar representatives will share with Technology Specialists and Coordinators just what’s available on their Video Streaming, as well as discuss how to work around these technology issues to provide your teachers with some powerful classroom tools. This workshop will focus on sharing success stories of system-wide implementation of the PeachStar Video Streaming site, and implications for your system’s LAN/WAN infrastructure.

W14. Hands On Learning -  A "Palms-Up" Winner

This is a two-part, hands-on workshop covering the basics of Palm® handheld computers. The first part of the workshop will cover practical applications for all users such as application buttons, soft buttons, file management, date book, address book,  and beaming. Participants will have time to use all of these functions before moving to the second part of the workshop.  The second half of the workshop will introduce educational/scientific uses of Palm handhelds. Software such as “Pico Map”, “Cooties”, “Fling-It”, and “Documents-To-Go” will be modeled. Participants will use these programs during hands-on activities. Participants will conduct scientific experiments using ImagiWorks Scientific Probes. These experiments will be conducted in centers and will include determining heart rate, pH, and temperature. A step-by-step instruction booklet will be provided to all participants. The booklet will include all activities, experiments, and web sites for free Palm software downloads.
